Statement of Purpose
1. To promote community awareness of the indigenous flora and fauna and to develop and enhance appropriate habitats and micro-biologic and aquatic life forms.
2. To promote local community participation in management, enhancement and development of Willsmere Park and Kew Billabong, including the grass land and the River bend Peninsula.
3. To assist with special projects (like Community Planting Days) selected by the FOWPKB in liaison and consultation with the City of Boroondara, Melbourne Water and other Victorian statutory bodies.
4. To liaise with other groups in supporting the effective management of parks and reserves, flora and fauna in Victoria.
5. Willsmere Park & Kew Billabong are being managed under the Chandler-Willsmere Parks Management Plan adopted by the City of Boroondara on the 23rd July 2001 and this friends group seek to be fully involved in the decision making process regarding application of the plan.
6. Willsmere Park & Kew Billabong Friends Group oppose the building of a connecting bridge over the Yarra River at any point that passes through Willsmere Park as this will be a severe detriment to the amenity of the park.
Our priorities are:-
* The water quality in the Billabong
* The water level in the Billabong
* Working in liaison with the Environmental Officer
* The proper use of bikes within Willsmere Park and in the River Bend Peninsula area
* The ongoing implementation and evolution of the Management Plan to reflect current ideas, views and attitudes of all park users.
Friends of Willsmere Park & Kew Billabong Inc. work in close liaison and co-operation with the City of Boroondara.
